THE ENVE WORLD CUP DH PODIUM TALLY: THREE IN LES GETS

The second installment of the 2021 UCI World Cup Downhill season was a nailbiter until the very finish. It wasn’t clear until the day before the race if ENVE athlete Thibaut Daprela would start, after breaking his nose and biting through his tongue less than a week earlier. He ended up dropping in, early in the final lineup. On race day he put down a heater and sat in the hot seat for what seemed like an eternity. Rider after rider came into the finish area, just short of his time, each slowing with worsening rain. Thibaut ended up on top, his first world cup win. He wore his tongue scar proudly.

World Champion Myriam Nicole finished on the podium in the Elite Women’s category, battling it out with the rest of the talented athletes in her category to place second. Her time was an impressive five seconds faster than the third place finisher.

Junior Jackson Goldstone finished first in the Junior Men’s category, securing his first win in his first season of racing. He is certainly one to watch in the years to come. See more of his riding here.

The time and energy put into the world cup season is incredible, and Commencal has shown a glimpse of what goes into it in their “Inside Line” series. The first video of the 2021 season shows the testing and training process that each athlete undertakes in the offseason. The unique situation of lockdown and a shortened season in 2020 also changed the typical routine for the team riders, demonstrated by their homemade workout equipment and back-to-basics fitness techniques.
