That Loamy Feeling
THAT LOAMY FEELING

Each fall, I feel a sense of urgency. It is my favorite time of the year to ride my bike – the colors, the smells, the crispness in the air – they flood my mind with some of my most memorable adventures. Yet these signs also point to the inevitable closure of the riding season, which pushes me out the door to squeeze in those last few rides before the snow falls.
The fall of 2015 was no different. My friend Steve Lloyd and I had been making plans to film a short video project before the snow fell. Steve had been exploring an area he felt could provide us with a unique video segment, with raw loam and rock lines. Our explorations yielded some of the most rewarding terrain I’ve had the pleasure of riding. “That Loamy Feeling” is that feeling you get when you’re just out in the woods by yourself, for no other purpose than the simple joy of rolling around on two wheels through raw dirt and rock.
You don’t always need to travel to far off places to find adventure – sometimes it’s right in your own backyard. Maybe it’s knowing that snow is just around the corner, or maybe it’s something else for you, but sometimes we need that sense of urgency to get out the door a little earlier, to break the routine, and be rewarded with that loamy feeling.
