Gravel Camp Scottsdale
We call it Gravel Camp, but when you combine a few industry brands, cycling journalists, top athletes, and promoters from some of the most noteworthy gravel events, it really turns into a gravel party. After the deluge of rain at last year’s event in Calabasas, California, we decided to go with a location that guaranteed warm winter miles and copious amounts of buff singletrack; that spot was Scottsdale, Arizona.
In its third year, Gravel Camp has hit its stride, attracting journalists from CyclingTips, VeloNews, Forbes, Bike Rumor, Gear Patrol, Outside, and Bicycling, who wanted to ridebikes on amazing terrain in and around the McDowell Preserve that’s chock-full of spectacular singletrack tailor-made for gravel bikes. With Evil as apartner for bikes, the journalists had their chance to put the new Chamois Hagar gravel bike to the test. Decked out with G23 wheels, Gravel Handlebars, and M6 Stems, it was a top-level build that delivered the confidence in handling required for hour after hour of singletrack riding.
Even with all the riding and socializing, we still managed to find time for the most memorable two hours of the week, bull riding. If you’re ever in Cave Creek, Arizona with $40 and a dream of riding an ill-tempered bull, head on over to The Buffalo Chip Saloon. You will not be disappointed.
