BIKE CHECK: KARSTEN'S CANYON LUX LTD

Karsten Madsen has spent most of his endurance racing career chasing wins on the Xterra circuit where he became Canada’s top male in the sport. Having always excelled on the bike portion, notably as the course difficulty increased, he’s changing his sporting focus to cycling. With events such as Unbound Gravel and BC Bike Stage races being his biggest targets for the upcoming season, the Whistler, BC-based athlete is looking to make a name for himself outside of Xterra.

Karsten describes his Canyon Lux LTB build, “For chasing many of these events, I needed to balance being able to rocket up the mountain while still being able to navigate the notoriously technical rock of Whistler BC. I personally enjoy under-biking some trail features and pushing the bike to the limits.

“My Lux LTD is far from what you see on Canyon’s website. It has a 120mm Rockshox Sid Ult fork to provide a little more travel up front, while the 150mm AXS dropper post allows more stability, and the ability to roll larger rocks. I’ve gone with the ENVE M5 handlebar that is wide enough for the handling I’m looking for, paired with a shorter-than-stock 65mm M6 stem. For wheels, I use the super light M525 for any true XC type course, but when things get rougher I go to the M630 paired with 2.3 – 2.4 Maxxis Forekaster or Rekon tires.”
